Girls BMX on the web
There is a new BMX website/company up and running with a bit of a difference... it's run by girl riders for girl riders and anyone else who fancies a look. It's work in progress with regular updates of news, interviews, pics and products. The link is www.bminx.co.uk

Derby Storm Skatepark
I recieved an email off Jamie Cameron with some info on the state of Derby Skatepark "I called my mate Piers that has been living in Derby for a while now. According to him the park isn't doing all that well financially but will only close if people stop riding there. Guy (Terry) and Piers have been hard at work building new ramps since a change in the running of the park. They are all looking forward to Fraggle's Jam in a month and have all kinds of ideas about how to make it more fun than your average contest."

Show your support and help keep the park open.

James Hitchcox Video Clip
More of a test than anything but hopefully soon there should be more video clips on this site and the TWOAND8 site. I've finally got a computer that was made this century and Adi is about to buy a video camera. The clip is of James Hitchcox from the Epic Tag Team Bowl Jam and needs Quicktime to run. Cheers to Steven Day at Forest of Dean BMX for the tech tips and hopefully once I've got it more dialled there will be more clips, smaller file sizes and other formats.

Minibike Action at Weston Indoor Arena
There will be for one weekend only a Minibike track built in the indoor arena, the full size supercross track is out for the summer and various activites are going to take place in the massive arena. One of which is an international BMX race, hence we have the use of the track the weekend before the pedal powered bikes take to it. The track will be full of jumps for those who want some serious air but will also be fully rollable for those not so keen to fly. There is camping available on site for £5. The cost to ride per day is £20 and sessions start at 11am and go through to the evening. There is a shop, grandstand seating, food outlets and Weston has loads of evening entertainment if your looking to let your hair down on the saturday night - there are loads of cheap hotels as it is off season. There's something for the whole family at Weston whether your into bikes or not. If you want to check out how to find Weston Indoor Arena then check out their website which is www.westonsx.co.uk or give them a call on 0870 7870982. Usual minibike rules apply, 4 stroke motor and 10" wheels max - no exceptions, you have ben warned. Its a fun weekend without competetive racing, you can obviously race your mates but were not organising classes as such. So if you want a guaranteed good track, warm and dry conditions this weekend head to Weston. Riders from all over the UK will be heading down.

Joe kid on a Stingray
After the success of 'Dogtown and ZBoys' a BMX equivalent was sure to show up some time soon.
Due out in the summer is 'Joe kid on a Stingray', a film basically detailing the start of BMX including interviews with some of the early pioneers.
The link below is the trailer for the film, It's a pretty big file though at 24.5 Meg. Download it if you've got loads of time to spare or a fast connection.

The world going mad part II
Whilst waiting for my bag to go through the X-ray machine at Stanstead airport a while back, I saw customs officials going through a woman's bag and pull out and confiscate a pair of scissors. As luck would have it I was sat near the woman on the plane and amused myself by watching the old dears hubby struggling to get into a plastic packed sarnie. Out came the previously searched bag and from within the bag came a Swiss army knife!
I guess it's official then, you can't take a skate board on the plane but you can take two or more weapons and can only expect customs to find the one. Genius.
The world going mad
Tom James sent me this link to an article titled "Skateboard banned as new terror weapon", no joke. Read the article, it just too ridiculous. Click to view

The Great British Cycling Community
Have you ever found yourself being bombarded with stupid bike related questions from acquaintances, work colleagues and fellow students just because they think your a cyclist?
I've had people ask when the Tour-de-France is due to start. Did I go and watch the Cyclo-Cross in Sutton Park last weekend or just general crap about Campagnolas latest group set!
One particular chap I work with falls real easily into this category. He's what I'd call a cheque book rider, someone who could just about handle an exercise bike yet still feel the need to spend thousands on the latest bike or parts. As Dennis Leary once sang - He's an Asshole!
Recently he came up to me to explain that he'd spent £90 on a carbon fibre sprung seat post but was now looking to spend just shy of $5000 on a new bike! He points me in the direction of the Specialized web site just so I can have a good look at where his money will be going.
I'm not sure if you'll remember a post I left here a while back, but there was a link to an online BMX game. Depending on your mentality you would have been occupied with the game for hours or a few minutes. Anyhow the new website I was pointed to is perhaps the x-country mountain biking equivalent.
www.it-knows.com
After watching him act like a kid on Christmas day whilst playing the game it suddenly struck me that this guy had never even seen this bike but based on what he'd seen in a 'game' was prepared to spend $5000 on a bike he could never use to it's full potential.
They say that BMXers are crazy but the average cyclist is fucking mental!!!
