Source Jam

"Just to let you know that our Jam went really well last week....unfortunately bad weather on the Wednesday after Backyard meant we had to put it back to the Sunday - this sucked because all the pro's had left to go home but that turned it more in to a local jam, which worked perfectly.

Fids, Nick Vale and gang of 20 of us volunteers worked through the night and right up to the last minute to get the course finished - it looked pretty damn good and rode a treat. Bands played, music blasted out and the crowds turned up to watch the local talent that most local people are more used to moaning about. We ran a pretty laid back schedule all day so there were no winners but props to Bexhill local Tom Gerrard for getting close to pulling his first flair and Hastings local (and Seventies warehouse packer) Dan Lacey for killing it with dialled nosedive three's over the spine all day long. Thanks to Seventies, Federal, Skin Tight Clothing, Roundabout, Howies and The Source for prizes.

As soon as it got dark, the back of the art gallery was turned into a giant cinema screen for the premier of Federal's new '9-1/2 days in Germany' DVD followed by local skate film 'Sheltered' - the continuation of the legendary 'Snakeskin jacket'. It was like a festival with everyone sitting out on deckchairs drinking beer as the sun went down over the sea....gotta be the best video premier venue around! Wait for regular video nights next spring.

I guess the best thing that came out of the whole event was that the Source have been given the skatepark which will be added-to and relocated up next to our track in Sidley - the old Backyard jam venue. Opinions of skaters and riders were changed too with the De La Warr Pavilion (www.dlwp.com) even allowing their marble ledges and steps to be sessioned............the spot has been the town's 'meeeting point' for the scene for years but has always attracted skate stoppers and security - times-are-a-changing!

Thanks to everyone that made it happen - all the sponsors, the DLWP, Ian, Dan and Ed @ federal for bringing the DVD master copy over and everyone that came to ride. But most of all to Fids and Nick who worked their arses off for not much money to build a kick arse park (and take it down again straight after).....it's going to lead to great things - we'll keep you posted"
